As fires around Ketchum and Sun Valley threatened homes and communities, citizens were asked to evacuate. Incident commander Jeanne Pincha-Tulley and her team were responsible for the successful handling of both the fire and the evacuation. They worked tirelessly to put residents at ease. She discusses the many aspects of fighting the fire, while at the same time keeping a community of thousands in the know.

On the 2007 Castle Rock Fire:
“For us we were ready for it, we had plans in place, and to us, because we took it on our terms, we were able to hold the structures. It was a great day. For the 1400 people we evacuated, it was a terrible day. So what I’m trying to get my folks to be sensitive to is, yeah we’re psyched because we were holding it, we’re still taking it on our terms, we’re bringing it down to somewhere we can handle it, but we still have a large population base watching us going, ‘Is my house okay?’”

On community involvement:
“This community is really amazing. The support that we’ve had, the community meetings. My information shop has been working really hard to get info out on a routine basis. So we’ve been doing five or six media releases a day. We’ve been working in concert with the county and the city so that we get the same information out. People are so well informed that I think they’re supporting what we’re doing.”
